I got this for my daughter who was in love with the movie. I was initially skeptical that the bulky surfboard wouldn't prove to be workable when she was in mermaid form. But to my delight, while somewhat bulky, the design of the toy makes the transformation quick and easy and the tail really does look good. When on her surfboard, there's a bit of tail fabric that hangs down, but it doesn't seem to negatively impact the fun or overall impression, at least for my daughter.From my 8-yr-old daughter: "She's really fun to play with and she's an awesome surfer. I think it's really cool that there's a surfboard on the back of her tail that you can transform."
