My daughter just loves this toy! She asked last minute for this before Christmas, and I literally ordered it on Dec 22. I don't know how, but it arrived before the holiday. I was shocked. I couldn't believe it! It was her favorite gift! Thank You! (We had a little issue trying to get the tail to stay put when Merliah transforms into a mermaid, the box doesn't say how to do this, but after tinkering with it, we figured it out. You take the leash and wrap it around the top of the surfboard once, then put the ankle cuff inside a little slot in the side of the board, and it pulls her tail up and keeps it in place. The box doesn't explain that.)This is my daughter's favorite toy. We like the color-changing stomach feature and the fact that it is both a mermaid and a surfer, but it's just difficult to make a doll stand up on a surfboard without putting stress on the joints.The left foot fell off, and we would snap it back on a million times a day. The piece that pulls the tail inside the surfboard won't stay together, so we have to rig it up whenever she wants the Barbie to surf instead of be a mermaid. Then later the leg broke at the knee and we taped it back on for awhile. When the second leg broke, we threw it away and ordered a second one for her to use. We'll see how long this one lasts. (We'll find a different toy once this one falls apart.)I got this for my daughter who was in love with the movie. I was initially skeptical that the bulky surfboard wouldn't prove to be workable when she was in mermaid form. But to my delight, while somewhat bulky, the design of the toy makes the transformation quick and easy and the tail really does look good. When on her surfboard, there's a bit of tail fabric that hangs down, but it doesn't seem to negatively impact the fun or overall impression, at least for my daughter.From my 8-yr-old daughter: "She's really fun to play with and she's an awesome surfer. I think it's really cool that there's a surfboard on the back of her tail that you can transform."My 4 year old received this, along with the barbie mermaid tale movies for Christmas. I almost didn't buy the barbie doll because of the reviews. I am so glad I did purchase it! My daughter loves her (and the movies) and she has been great for pretend play, especially in the bathtub! She transforms easily enough from mermaid to surfer. Tricky part for my daughter is getting doll's feet to stay in footholds on the surfboard, but she manages.When I asked my children what they wanted for Christmas this year my middle girl said "I want the Barbie that is a surfer and a mermaid, Mommy." I thought there was a dual pack or something so I was looking at some serious money for Barbie with five kids I was thinking she wasn't going to get one. I was so happy to find it here for less than $15 with shipping! It may be 2013 but this doll is at the top of her Christmas list and she is getting it this year! I can't wait to see her little face on Christmas morning!My daughter wanted that doll. I bought it. She was so happy and had bath with Merlia)) But pink Merlia's hair became blonde and still is blonde.... don't change colour again. And body art was fucsia colour, and now its colour is light-pink... it don't change colour again too... and pink colour on hair it's just paint which can be washed in bath and never became pink again.This does a lot of neat things! My daughter loves the surf board turned mermaid tail. The Barbie book with The Pearl Princess is her most favorite, so she was thrilled with Merliah. We are thrilled that she plays with the doll more and we have to read the story less. She also changes to pink hair and body art with cold water. My daughter kept running the water to see this happen. Great gift for our four-year-old!We purchased this for my daughter for Christmas. We only paid $4.50 (got to love how amazon changes prices so much!!!) so for the low price we cant complain. If paying $15+ for it I wouldn't buy. The tail/board is really annoying and gets stuck easily. But my daughter enjoys playing with the barbie without her tail/surf board.Barbie arrived very quickly after ordering. After reading other reviews, I was very careful when taking her out of her packaging to avoid cutting anything I shouldn't (like the surf board cord). Once I showed my 5 year old how to set up either the tail or the board, she was away. She still looks good after a long weekend's swimming and surfing! A great buy and I have just ordered another one for a friend's birthday. Recommended.My granddaughter had a LOT of toys for Christmas, but this one seems to have been a huge hit. She has played and played with it, some of the other barbie's are still in the boxes. She loves the mermaid part, and I like that's its hard for her to loose the 'tail'. Other mermaid dolls seem to loose the fabric tail in the toy-box( or up the Hoover) .I've given it plenty of stars because my G'daughters thinks it great. She's always got it with her and plays in the bath with it and sleeps with it. It makes me happy that I've bought her something that doesn't get forgot about. I thought it was a bit bright and blingy but she loves it.My daughter has had many a happy year playing with this doll . Survived the bath and is mould free inspite of several soaks. Do remember to put it upside down to dry after though.Its another Barbie toy!! The fin tale is a little flimsy and doesn't always stay in place. My daughter bought this for her sister and they both like it so things are good.
